Clinic Policy for Dr Mei Lee’s Patients
Referrals
- Dr. Mei Lee accepts referrals from GPs and medical specialists.
- Patients aged 16 years and above can be seen.
- For patients under 16 years old, prior approval from Dr. Mei Lee is required before booking.
- Under certain circumstances, Dr. Mei Lee may recommend referral to another psychiatrist who may be more appropriate to meet your specific needs.
- You need a valid GP or specialist referral to receive a Medicare or insurance rebate.
- Without a referral, you will need not receive medicare or insurance rebate.
- It is your responsibility to ensure your referral is up to date.
- Referral expiry:
- GP referral: valid for 12 months
- Specialist referral: valid for 3 months
Fees
- We charge standard AMA rates.
- Out-of-pocket cost (gap fee) is usually between $85 to $290, depending on appointment length.
- First appointments incur the highest gap fee.
- For ADHD assessments, please refer to the ADHD Policy.
New Patient Bookings
- All new patients must prepay their first appointment.
- Payment is required 1 month before the appointment.
- If payment is not received, your appointment may be given to another patient.

Appointment Confirmation & Reminders
- You will receive a confirmation SMS or email.
- Please reply YES or NO.
- If you do not respond:
- Your appointment will be automatically cancelled 24 hours before.
- This is an automated system and cannot be changed.
- The receptionist will not provide additional reminders.
- Please ensure you double-check the appointment date and time and enter it correctly into your calendar or set a reminder.
- Let reception know your preferred contact method.
Late Arrivals & Non-Attendance
- If you arrive late by more than half of your appointment time, it will be treated as a non-attendance.
- If you do not attend your appointment, you will be charged the full fee.
Cancellations
- Minimum 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule.
- Late cancellations or missed appointments will incur the full fee.
Outstanding Fees
- Any cancellation fee or unpaid fee must be cleared before you can book another appointment.
- You will not be able to schedule follow-up appointments until all outstanding fees are paid.
Forms and Reports
- Any forms or reports completed outside of consultationwill incur a fee.
- Fees start from $200 + GST, depending on the type of form or report.
- Please bring your forms to your appointment if possible.
- If completing forms during consultation takes additional time, extra fees may apply.
Use of AI Scribe
- Due to Dr. Mei Lee’s health condition, an AI scribe may be used during consultations from time to time.
- By booking an appointment with Dr. Mei Lee, you agree to this.
- If you have any concerns, please let Dr. Mei Leeknow.
Follow-Up Appointments
- Unless pre-arranged with Dr. Mei Lee, patients who have not returned for follow-up within 12 months will be treated as new patients.
- Dr. Mei Lee’s pre-approval is required before a follow-up appointment can be made.
- Under certain circumstances, Dr. Lee may require a long 45-minute appointment for your consultation.

ADHD Assessment policy
At our practice, ADHD assessments are conducted carefully and thoroughly to ensure an accurate and appropriate diagnosis.
Number of Appointments
- ADHD assessments require a minimum of two appointments to complete.
- This allows sufficient time to gather a comprehensive history and assess symptoms across different settings.
Assessment Process
- During your appointments, Dr Mei Lee will review your current symptoms, developmental history, and relevant background information.
- Sometimes, based on the information provided, Dr Mei Lee may not be able to reach a clear conclusion after the initial appointment(s).
Further Assessment (If Required)
- In some cases, even after two appointments, further clarification may be needed.
- You may be referred for formal psychological testing to support the diagnostic process.
- This involves an in-depth assessment conducted by a psychologist trusted by Dr Mei Lee.
Important Notes About Referrals
- Dr Mei Lee is not affiliated with the psychologists she may refer you to.
- These assessments are conducted independently.
- Additional fees will apply, depending on the psychologist’s schedule and services.
How to Prepare
To assist with a thorough and efficient assessment, please:
- Bring any school reports (from Prep onwards, if available)
- Provide any previous medical or psychological reports
- Attend the second appointment with a family member or close friend, if possible, to provide additional collateral information

The aim of this process is to ensure a safe, accurate, and evidence-based diagnosis, and to guide appropriate treatment and support.
